Steelway Brickhouse

PRESS RELEASE:
Steelway Brickhouse combines their commitment to a new British Standard with a framework award from Anglian Water

Steelway Brickhouse have recently secured a new 3 year framework with Anglian Water for the design, supply and installation of non security access covers. The deal, said to be worth over £1m is based around their ‘Stamp-Lock’ range of access covers with additional requirements, such as full civil’s installation and also compliancy to the new British Standard, BS9124.

An award of this magnitude signifies Steelway’s drive to continually move forward and also shows their commitment to comply fully with applicable standards.

Anglian Water are also leading the way. Not only by introducing BS9124 into their standard specification, but also by taking advantage of the technical requirements for products which fall outside its scope. This approach not only provides consistency of product offerings on projects requiring steel access covers but also improves protection to operators and the general public by ensuring that all new steel access covers incorporate slip resistant finishes to the highest standard with minimum polished slip resistance values (PSRV).

BS9124 details the requirements for steel and aluminium access covers with clear openings larger than 1000mm. To comply with the standard, slip resistant finishes also have to be taken into consideration and applied to the products finished surface. In the water industry, chambers of this size or not uncommon. Most valve, screen chambers and large wet wells, for instance have opening sizes that fall outside of the scope of already recognized standards, such as BS EN124.

Sounds confusing? Steelway are now offering a CPD accredited presentation seminar which looks to break down the confusion which often arises when specifying steel access covers. It also simplifies the technical requirements and relates BS9124 to existing standards and specifications, such as FACTA and BS EN124.
