1. Hotel
Hotels need to change with changing
markets. On the one hand there is a
demand for budget accommodation,
which will include increasing amounts of
standardisation and off-site manufacture.
On the other, high-end hotels need to
offer ever-better facilities, whether in terms
of restaurants and lifts, or of luxurious
bathrooms and spas. Construction always
needs to be as rapid as possible, while
finishes need to be robust and reliable,
making this an area of challenge and
opportunity for the construction industry.

2. Sport
As Britain wakes up to the need to be a
healthier and fitter nation, so the provision of
sporting facilities becomes increasingly
important. This fascinating area covers
everything from facilities of Olympic standard,
to those serving the community either as part
of a school or as an independent facility. Many
buildings need to be highly flexible,
incorporating a range of facilities. And while we
want to encourage a spirit of adventure, health
and safety is also of primary concern in
facilities that will be accommodating the young
and the old, plus people with disabilities. This
covers everything from non-slip floors to
lighting and the safe installation of equipment.

3.Leisure
Buildings for leisure can range from bars
and restaurants, which need ever better
design and higher standards to attract
customers, to landscaping parks and
recreation areas, which are becoming
ever more intensively used, often serving
as outdoor gyms as well as meeting
areas. This puts great demand on
surfaces and finishes, as well as play
equipment, designed for use by children
and sometimes by adults as well.
