1. Private Housing
While construction of private housing has stalled over the last few years, the same is not true of housing need. There is an enormous pent-up demand
for affordable homes, suitable for 21st Century lifestyles. At the same time there are the new environmental requirements, and new ways of treating the
surroundings to housing developments, with concepts such as home zones affecting not only the layout of streets but also the materials used.

2. Social Housing
Social housing has to address a pressing and changing need. These features will look at the effect on design and specification of the need to design
social housing for different user types – single dwellings, large families, particular ethnic groups and the elderly. They will also look at ways of meeting
lifetime homes requirements, and at the particular demands of building on brownfield sites and infill sites. In many cases, the solution to building
affordably in tight sites is an increasing use of offsite construction. The features will also examine ways to satisfy the code for sustainable homes, and
move towards zero carbon homes.

3. Legislation
Legislation changes as rapidly in housing as in any part of the construction industry. We will look at what the latest changes are, and at their implications,
as well as what is likely to happen in the future.
